History Snapshot

In it's beginning, as was most of the land in the general area, there were many farms and people generally lived in cabins. F.D. Cossitt, a cotton planter from LaGrange Tennessee founded the community, which was incorporated in 1879. He named it after his beloved hometown.

Again, as in many towns along the Burlington corridor, a push was on by the residents to extend the train services "far out west", like toward Aurora. After much resistance, it finally happened. Of course the train today is a major attraction for home purchasers in the area. LaGrange is located about 14 miles from the bustling city of Chicago.

The Village's historic district is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. There are still many grand-style homes such as Victorians, Queen Anne, and Prairie styles in the community. Homes are generally well kept and lovingly restored. Other attractions of LaGrange are the excellent schools systems. The annual pet parade draws a ton of visitors every year from all over the country.
